Make a cool sink out of a $50 Ikea table

Looking for an inexpensive way to build one of those cool sinks-in-a-table? This might be right up your alley.
IkeaHacker.com has a great piece on how to turn a $50 Ikea table (The Bevkam Kitchen Cart) into a fashionable bathroom sink.
The process involved using a sabre saw to cut a whole in the top part of the cart before assembling it. Once assembled, the cart was stained dark brown and waterproofed.
Then, a sink and faucet from one of Home Depot's Expo stores was dropped in and caulked before attaching the drain pipe.
A plumber did have to be brought in to install wall faucets but according to Karen, the nice lady who thought this whole thing up, when all was said and done this sink cost far less than the $900 version she'd been eyeing beforehand. Well done!

nice idea but I tried it in my small bathroom and it looked pretty hideous.. the legs are very thick and chunky... its gone in the bin and im having a worktop done now!

problem with that often is not the fact that it is a vanity, or table, or red balloon. the problem is that you want to be sure that the material is not a laminated mdf or similar "engineered" wood. these will disintegrate with a couple exposures to water.

MWT and I are planning a bathroom remodel, and we love the vanity-as-furniture-look. He wants to build the cabinet, but I've been looking for a chest of drawers or maybe even one of those 2-part china cabinets--and just buy/use the bottom 'buffet' part as the vanity. There's a lot of options out there if you're willing to think outside the box. Or should I say 'outside the vanity'?
