Light-emitting wallpaper goes from incognito to hey, that's neato

By Doug Aamoth

Light emitting wallpaper

The next time you leave the house, will you have to remember to turn the wallpaper off? Designer Jonas Samson has created "high-tech light-emitting wallpaper" that makes it "possible to use a two-dimentional flat surface as light source instead of a 3D object. As long as the wallpaper is turned ‘off’, it is indistinguishable as a source of light. Instead, it is just what it appears to be: wallpaper."

To be honest, I'm not sure if this is ever going to be for sale in the real world, how much it'll cost, or if you'll plug it in to a wall socket or have it hard-wired to a switch. One thing's for sure, though. It puts a whole new spin on boring old wallpaper, huh?

There are some amazing things happening in wallpaper:

We cover the industry at WallpaperWeekly.com

With the advent of new technology it is possible to now print short run, meaning 2 rolls:

The printing looks just like screen printing but now one can print in half tones ! yes - half tones !

We just printed some samples on grasscloth, embossed gold vinyl, and cork... Artists rejoice!

LOVE this. It combines two of my favorite things: organic shapes and light.

Fun! It would be great if it was solar powered.

Actually this could have some decluttering applications as well. For myself, I could tack Christmas ornaments or garland to the wall in strategic places, and reclaim the closet space my tree-in-a-box currently takes up.
