Just a touch of Anaglypta

By DesigningMom

I hope this isn't a repeat idea, but here goes anyway....

Below is a picture of a little chest of drawers our daughter was given at birth by my folks.  I don't have a before picture, but it was the typical off whitish color this style of furniture usually is.  It was no longer the right look for our hip 22 year old daughter to use in her first apartment, but because of the sentimental value she wanted to take it with her and use it as a night stand. What was a mom to do, but update it for her grown up baby girl?

We bought just the right shade of ice blue paint to match her recently purchased duvet.  But paint alone wasn't enough.  Never is, since I typically don't like painted furniture.  I always have to add something to everything I do.  My sister used to ask me why I bought crosstitch kits when I recharted everyone of them to give them more character?  Anyway...while we were waiting for inspiration to hit me we decided to start painting it.  Out to the garage we went carrying the dresser with us.  We were soon painting away.

Suddently I heard a little voice calling to me.  No, not like the time I heard a teeny tiny voice calling "MOM!" while at the lumber-yard with my hubby.  But that's another story.  This time the voice came from above.  Nope, not God.  I thought for sure it was saying...It A-naaaaaa....something.  I listened closer...Glypta.  Glypta!? :{  Aaanah..Glypta!  I soon came to my senses and realized it was saying anaglypta.  The wallpaper I had a couple extra rolls of.  YES! That was it.  I ran into the house telling Katie I'd be right back.  At this point in her life Katie knows me well enough to know I wasn't running to the bathroom, but that I had an idea and couldn't stop to explain less I forget what I was thinking.

When I came back with white bumpy wallpaper she wasn't so sure it was a good idea, but trusted her ole' mom enough and agreed to let me put it on the raised panels of the drawers if we could get the new glass knobs and pulls she wanted for it.  It was a deal!

So we carefully cut the paper centering the design to fit each drawer.  Soaked the pieces to activate the paste and added them to the drawer fronts and finished painting.

This is how it looked once completed.  Much more sophisticated for a young lady.  I know my folks would love it too.  In fact I'm not so sure that voice from above wasn't my Mom giving me the idea.  She was so good with ideas. :) <3

The top is formica so we left it alone.  Below you can see it in Katie's bedroom with her chilkittens sleeping on the top of it.
