Attention All Winos: Start Saving Your Corks

By DIY Maven

By my calculations, you’d have to drain 256 bottles of wine to accumulate enough corks to make this funky bulletin board (kit on sale for $19.95) available at Wine Enthusiast.

However, you could easily skip the kit, find (or, better yet, make) an appropriate frame, attach a thin plywood or MDF back and there ya go.

Also available are kits to make a trivet, serving tray and message center.

My uncle covered a small wall surrounding the wall phone with corks.  My aunt actually dated each one and they display the name if possible.  The kids, however, just use it as a tack board for messages.  Still, a fabu idea!

Years ago I would of really enjoyed the cork gathering via draining 256 bottles!

I agree with skipping the kit. I made a 2ftx3ft one using a simple frame and a hot glue gun. Unfortunately I don't have a pic. It can be a quick project to randomly glue down the corks, or can take much longer if you get more involved in trying to arrange the corks in some meaningful manner (special occasions, varietals, regions, pretty logos....)

It took my mother about three years to finish one of these. She'd collect corks from friends, at restaurants, etc.
