My Cardboard House Remodel
By DIY Maven
Last week MWT brought home this cute little two-story house with a request that it be remodeled for entry into a 'parade of homes' contest sponsored by the company for which he works. There was no word as to whether prizes will be given out to the best remodel, but, seriously, did I care?! Of course not! It was a teeny house just ready for a makeover! Here's the outcome:

I re-made the roofline to make it more appropriate for 'thatching', which is actually a sheet of cardboard that I scored with a craft knife. I painted it with a very dark brown acrylic craft paint and then stroked it with a sponge loaded with tan. I also sponged (dabbed) on the house's stucco (it's soft white). The door, window trim and wreath were made out of shoebox cardboard, as I didn't want them too thick. The curtains are paper, into which I punched a decorative border. The 'smoke' is a bit of fluff pulled from the stuffing of an old pillow, and there's a teeny cardboard Christmas tree inside too.

Think we'll win? I'm not betting on it after last year's pumpkin carving contest. I'm still a bit miffed about that. We were robbed, ROBBED I say!

Adorable! And very clever. I especially love the detail on the curtains.
