Considering Exposed Pipes

By DIY Maven

Exposed pipes. Sometimes they're really cool, like in the Chelsea loft pictured above. On the other hand, sometimes they're just yucky. For less than pristine pipes, a bit of paint can act like a camouflage...like in this picture from Coastal Living.

The owners of this basement family room don't shy away from showing off their pipes OR ductwork. The added corrugated panels play up the industrial feel and make it work.

Uplift gives this sorry ceiling a jolt with color and suddenly the exposed pipes are an interesting sculptural element.

Of course, some shy away from showing their pipes, which is why people have been making sink skirts since the advent of indoor plumbing.

So how about you? Do you, or would you, embrace exposed pipes?
