The Porcupine Bookshelf by Holly Palmer celebrates negative space. When books are not in the shelf's 18 crannies, their essence remains. Or something like that. The shelf, which is meant to be used as side table, has an internal light source that's revealed when a book is removed. The Porcupine Bookshelf will set you back about $1500.
