What won't you give up in this economy?
By DIY Maven
MWT has drawn a line in the sand. We will continue to shop for groceries at the co-op even though we could save 20% of our grocery expenses by going to our local food super store. I've decided I don't need any new clothes any time soon. Books are a different story. (Gotta have my books.) I'll be passing on any new DVDs, except maybe when the 2nd season of The Big Bang Theory comes out. (I'll play a game of Rock, Paper, Lizard, Scissors, Spock with MWT to decide.) Restaurants? I like to cook, so no big sacrifice there. Movies? I've always preferred matinees. Trips to the coffee shop? Caffeine gives me the shakes. Craft supplies? Curbly-related stuff stays in the budget. The rest is out. That new DSLR I've been researching? *Sigh* I can't bring myself to decide one way or the other right now. Stay tuned, I guess.
So there's a peek into our fiscal priorities. How about you? What have you given up? What won't you give up?

I'm with Becky. Food is purchased carefully and whole grains are purchased in bulk, sealed and good for about 10 years. (I grow what I'm able and can and make jellies , and have a few hens for laying). I'm stocking up on things like antibiotics (you never know) and am even looking into building a water purification system.
However, I'm also stocking up on 5 gal cans of premium fuel, 50w oil and plugs...I ride a motorcycle, and that's the one thing I wouldn't give up. I have 2 trades, so if I have my bike, I can always find work.
(Assuming the "recession" turns "depression"...which I feel has already started...but nobody's saying.)

Maven, I'm with you, though my chocolate habit is usually Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate Chips. I switched from the candy aisle to the baking aisle for my chocolate fix ages ago. It just makes no sense to pay chocolate bar prices when I can get chocolate chips for so much less. Sometimes I'll go with chocolate chip cookie dough when I'm feeling really frugal. It's even less expensive than the chips are.
Groceries will still be mainly from Whole Foods with meat coming from our local butcher. We've always been wise about how we spend our money, so there's not much to change. We've yet to feel a pinch. Praise God.

Although they're not occasional--more like DAILY--I can't give up Dove Promises. Dark, of course.

I cannot give up the occasional trip to Chipotle. The chips and guac beckon...

My iPhone for sure. I cannot, will not, and thankfully hve not had to give it up. I'm sure it's a billion other people's "thing" too, and the monthly cost IS pretty outrageous. Even my extremely budget conscious husband has not even suggested it because he knows just how much it means to me. Now that's love, people.
