How to make sidewalk chalk out of eggshells.

By DIY Maven

Homemade Sidewalk Chalk

Okay, so sidewalk chalk isn't exactly the most expensive thing in the world, but why buy it when you can make it? And out of eggshells no less! (Mr. Wizard would be so proud.) The procedure is simple and the supplies are minimal to say the least. They include:

  • approximately 5 eggshells, sans the egg part, of course
  • 1 teaspoon of flour
  • 1 teaspoon of very hot water
  • food coloring
  • a mortar and pestle arrangement or a bowl and something with which to mash

To see how it all goes together, follow this link.

For another chalk recipe using Plasture of Paris and tempera paint, check out this post on Thrifty Fun. I particularly love their ideas for molds, which include film canisters, Dixie Cups, egg cartons and toilet paper rolls!
