How to Make Lotion Bars

By DIY Maven

Little House in the Suburbs shares their secrets for making lotion bars. If you aren't familiar with lotion bar, think bar of soap only lotion. They're very handy and because there's no water in them--like most lotions--they have a very high moisturizing quotient. Little House gives us two recipes. Here's the no-frills version:

Everyman's Lotion Bar Recipe

  • 1 part vegetable shortening
  • 1 part vegetable oil
  • 1 part beeswax

And here's the mac daddy version:

Luxury Lotion Bar Recipe

  • 1 part shea butter
  • 1 part avocado oil
  • 1 part beeswax
  • 1200 IU vitamin E (1 large capsule per every 6-8 oz of other oils used)
  • essential oil (optional)

Sign me up for the luxury option! To see how to 'em all together, skip on over to this page.

Oh neat!  I just made shampoo bars for the first time a few weeks ago.  I didn't know you could do something like this... looks like I found a weekend project!  Thanks!
