DIY Illuminated Canvas = Art/Lighting

By DIY Maven

A while back Kate decided to make a night light using lightweight canvas fabric. The results are an illuminated one-of-a-kind art piece. Your design options are limitless, making it work with any interior and in any room. It could also make for a great shop sign! The following is what Kate assembled to make hers:

  • lightweight canvas fabric or muslin, not primed
  • stretcher bars or pre-made frame (Kate's is 16 x 20)
  • 2" x 2" wood (enough to make a frame 1" shorter on both sides than your art piece's dimensions)
  • acrylic paint (Kate used regular old craft paint)
  • one large and one small paint brush
  • pencil
  • light bulb and socket set (Kate used an Ikea pendant light kit)
  • heavy duty staple gun
  • tracer light box, optional but helpful
  • computer and printer
  • mitre box and saw
  • hot glue or nails
