How to Find the Right Canvas Wall Art for a Room

By DIY Maven

Sometimes you fall in love with art that doesn't quite 'go' with your decor. No, we're not trying to match the sofa, but we are trying to find art that will complement a space that we also happen to love, which is the best kind of relationship. Freshome plays canvas wall-art-matchmaker in a recent article describing just what we should keep in mind as we search for or create the perfect image for our interior. Their hints include:

  1. Matching the color scheme.
  2. Matching the artwork to the interior's existing style.
  3. Considering the wall's size.
  4. Considering the style of the piece itself.
  5. Making your own.

For the entire article, which fleshes out these 6 hints, visit Freshome.

Good advice on choosing and placement, but I can't say I agree with the statement "No matter how much you like a piece, if it doesn’t match your decor, then it shouldn’t be purchased."  I can see what they're getting at, but sometimes loving a piece of art is more than just finding something that matches your sofa or fits into your color scheme.  I say if you find something you love....it will eventually fit in somewhere.  I bought two pieces years ago that I absolutely adored and they gave me joy every time I looked at them, but they didn't match or go with ANYTHING in my main living spaces so were relegated to the spare room walls.  It was years and several moves later that they finally found a place of honor...and I've never regretted purchasing them.  Sometimes you have to go against convention and listen to your heart. ;)
