Do you dress like you decorate?

By DIY Maven

Last week on Top Design, guest judge and my favorite OCD sufferer Jeff Lewis made the observation that one could match the designers’ rooms to what they wore to the judging. For instance Nathan rocked an edgy sport coat which just added to his sensuality (although last week his room sort of lacked both, except for the nails);

Ondine was lovely in a gathered skirt and simple top, a reflection of her graphic yet feminine black and white office/guest room.

Preston--my pick to win--was tailored to perfection as was his impeccably put-together family room.

Eddie was wearing something a wealthy grandmother--with very good taste--would make you wear to a fox hunt, and his bedroom looked like the perfect spot for the aforementioned grandma to nap in after said fox hunt.

All in all, Mr. Lewis’s remark was spot on, which made me wonder, does your wardrobe match your design aesthetic?  I’ll go first. A peek into my closet would reveal that I wear no pastels and very few prints or ruffles. I prefer tailored things to flounce and absolutely NO glittery stuff. Ultimately, I’d sum it up this way: Ann Taylor meets Eddie Bauer for a tryst in the changing rooms at Old Navy. So, how about you??

I've been considering people I know and how they dress in relation to their decorating choices. You really could match them up to their interiors. And thinking about my mom...I can see similarities. *shudder* ;)

I have been giving this one some thought since you posted the question.  Most of my wardrobe and decorating colour choices are black, taupes and white and very clean simple lines.  I add some colour with either a scarf or throw/pillows.  Like you, no pastels or ruffles and very few prints.  What also amazes me is how much we tend to be like our mothers.  When I look at our home and the homes of my friends, we are just newer versions of our mothers style!
