The Living Room is Dead; Long Live the 'Live-in' Kitchen
By DIY Maven
Okay, maybe the living room isn’t dead, but its prominence in the house isn’t what it used to be. Because of the way we live these days, the kitchen is the place to be. Maybe the kids are doing homework and we’re checking e-mail or paying bills, or perhaps we're entertaining. Whatever the situation, the kitchen is where the action is.
Kitchen Remodeling Ideas says, “The trends in kitchen design are set to focus on comfort and usability. Imagine a kitchen that incorporates a couch, a television, a coffee table and internet access into its space.” They call this kind of kitchen a ‘live-in’ room because that’s exactly what we do there. Its versatility and usability fits our 21st century lifestyles.

And just where exactly would we find the post on how to make these Mrs Field's knock offs !?!?!? :)

So does that mean Al didn't invent the interweb?! I'm afraid I'm not a big ice cream fan. (Is that un-American?) But cookies....mmm. I have a Mrs. Field's knock off recipe that's to die for.

We did have an internet at that time. The university I went to was noted for its engineering school and we had one of the first complete fiber optic phone networks for the entire campus back in 1984. We were able to access the world wide web but it was all text and data back then. Mostly just accessing other computers at other universities and colleges out there in the world. Nothing exciting although we did have instant messaging if you were logged in the the school system.
Not related but just as exciting was the fact that one of the top ice creameries in the country was located a few blocks away. Sure technology is great but it pales in comparison to handmade ice cream mixed with your choice of toppings and served in a homemade waffle cone.

Possibly--except that the interweb was just a spark in Al Gore's eye at the time.

hmmmm...actually I can. Then again maybe they considered it a living room with a kitchen in it. It was the college suite I lived in my Junior and Senior year back in the 80's. Well, except I'm guessing it was a lot smaller than the typical kitchen found in most homes today.
Does this mean I was ahead of my times? :)
