We Wish You a Tacky Christmas

By DIY Maven

This is the time of year when your neighbors can exercise their god-given right to be tacky, and there’s not a thing you can do about it.

The Snow Globe Phenomenon

This pimple popped up down the street from me, and although I wouldn’t necessarily choose to erect one in my yard, there’s something about it that makes me smile when I drive by. It probably has something to do with the ever-constant swirling snow inside, which will cease to be entertaining as soon as we have our first major snowfall.

Gemmy is the manufacturing king of air-filled lawn ornaments. For those of you who plan ahead, they also offer Thanksgiving and Halloween themed bubbles. As for me, until Gemmy comes out with a globe celebrating Groundhog Day, I think I’ll pass.

He he! My neighbor has a blow up grinch in his front yard, only a few feet from the curb. It is on a Photovoltaic switch, so that when it gets dark enough, it turns on and inflates. But, since the switch is a little wonky, it will turn on for a few seconds, then off, then on, off. It will do this for about twenty minutes each night. It freaks my dog out a little bit, so he stands at the edge of our yard and "chuffs". Not quite a bark.

We didn't do much for lights this year, just wrapped a tree, boring, eh?

I always say "to each his own".  We have a bunch of these pimples in our neighborhood.  And the lawn ornament/decoration phenomenon grows by each holiday that comes and goes.  I cringe every time I drive by them, but in the spirit of what I said before, and accepting that my decorating style is not everyone else's, I smile.  It's a free country, thankfully.
