7 Steps to DIY Graphic Design
By DIY Maven
So you want to design a logo for your business or website or maybe you even want to create a cover for that novel you wrote. You have a spark of an idea but that’s about it. Dumb Little Man has some great tips to help turn your musings into reality sans the cost of hiring a professional graphic designer. Things to keep in mind when DIYing it according to Mike at DLM:
- ‘Think few and simple. [As in less is more.]
- Every element you choose must reinforce your theme.
- Get one, or maybe two, really strong graphic elements. [Using free-to-use images; Mike lists his favorite websites for where to find them.]
- Use two, or maybe three, clean, legible fonts. [If you don’t already have the right one, you might want to check out urbanfonts and better fonts.]
- Use three, maybe four, well-matched colors. [And harmonize them with EasyRGB.]
- Use Inkscape to bring it all together.
- Align the elements.’
Mike sums up his hints by reminding us that if we have the cash, a pro is the way to go, but if the bucks are nil, doing it ourselves isn’t as hard as we might think it is. To read Mike's entire article, go to DLM.
