To Dry Clean or Not to Dry Clean

By DIY Maven

That is the question. Especially nowadays. Toxicity might be an issue, or it might simply be that spending 10 bucks to dry clean that 30 dollar rayon shirt we picked up on our last vacation isn’t financially sound. Either way, we’ve all toyed with the idea of washing those items labeled ‘Dry Clean Only.’ Before we risk plunging them into suds, we might want to check out Fabric Direct’s handy on-line fabric care directory. In it we find out that although dry cleaning is preferred for rayon, it can be hand washed in lukewarm water. A surprising entry on suede contends that although it’s recommended it be dry cleaned, it can also be machine washed in the gentle cycle.
