Curbly Video Podcast: Graffiti Leaves

This is a really quick, easy and inexpensive way to create images pretty enough for framing.

The props:

  • Acrylic craft paint (I used a luscious turquoise)
  • White acrylic spray paint
  • A paint brush
  • Something to serve as a canvas like a piece of plywood or MDF
  • Several leaves from an indoor or outdoor plant (for the picture above, I used silk leaves purchased at my local craft store

The procedure:

  • Paint your ‘canvas’ with a coat or two of the craft paint.
  • After it’s completely dry, arrange your leaves on top of the painted side.
  • Holding the spray can parallel with the ‘canvas’, spray over the entire surface. If the leaves move slightly, that’s fine. It’s this movement that creates the soft, watery image. If a leaf or two should move significantly, simply stop spraying, readjust the leaf and then start painting again.
  • Let the spray paint dry for a few minutes and then carefully lift off the leaves.
  • What until the coat of spray paint is completely dry before framing, of course!
