Also known as the ‘Shy Plant’, ‘Humble Plant’, ‘Sleeping Grass’, ‘Touch-Me-Not’, ‘Sensitive Plant’ and ‘Modest Princess’, the Mimosa pudica reacts to touch as if it is indeed ‘shy’. Native to South and Central America, it’s actually now considered a ‘pantropical weed’. Still, its reaction to touch makes it a bit more anthropomorphic than your basic potted pathos. I am so excited, I lived in Panama as a kid and I remeber how I would always play with these on my walk to school everyday. I could never remember what they were actually called. Then just this evening I was talking to my mom about these plants over dinner and she told me they were called "Sleeping Grass". So I Googled it and found this website, I am so happy. I plan to buy some seeds and share a bit of my childhood with my four year old son, I know he will get a kick out if like I did!!!!!

Yea I went to the ticklemeplant site. Is that really Adam Sandler? Does anyone know for sure. Great plant - I just order the kit.

I call them TickleMe Plants. I love these plants.So easy to grow If you haven't grown one you know someone who hasn't...suprise them. They will never look at plants the same way....they may stop mowing their lawn! I went to the web site above and my kids love the video. I am pretty sure it is Adam Sandler that is singing.

OMG! I lived in Panama as a kid and I remember these plants.  We played with them all the time.  Yes, they were total weeds but so very cool.  Thank you for reminding me of these - what a blast from the past!

We had one of those in our college dorm room. For some reason it could provide hours of fun. But that may have been due to other,um, vegetation. Not as good as a hamster but if you can't have pets it does give you some interactive functionality.
