Sheds made of demolished Katrina homes.

By DIY Maven

After hurricane Katrina, Brad Guy of BMRA, Bryan Bell and Sergio Palleroni, resolved to put to use the material of 50,000 homes that had been demolished. (To put this figure in prospective, 5% of the 50,000 homes equals 53,000,000 board feet, which is enough to build 3,800 homes.) The determined trio, along with students from Design Corps’ Summer Studio who had studied re-use and community design, built two prototype sheds. An excellent example of re-using local salvaged materials, the  sheds are being used by Katrina victims to store supplies and tools of their trades as they rebuild their homes and lives. Via.
