Daniel Edlen’s LP Canvases

By DIY Maven

Artist Daniel Edlen is one of those people who just can’t let go of vinyl. And why should he when he can use those old LPs as canvases? Portraits painted in hues of grey on the musicians’ original records, he frames his art in simple metal LP frames with the accompanying album sleeve behind. His on-line gallery is primarily a tribute to the music of the 60's and to anyone interested in re-purposing.

Oh my gosh, these are so fresh! I need to find a "Teddy Bear Picnic" album, I love making teddy bear art, - diy copy cat!!!

These are really great, and they probably don't infringe on any personal identity laws. There is a really fine legal line on doing portraits of famous people. But we shy away from it, it's more a hassle than it's worth. long story... but we had a portrait gallery, and an intellectual property attorney served me with papers, twice, requesting I tell him all the sales, and give him all artwork. I didn't bite back, I ignored it, because if I would've given him more info that he requested it would've blown up in my face, and he finally disappeared. There wasn't even any money made on the artwork. So, portraits of people, scary business!!!

Ebay has a vero program, and some of my stuff from taken off by request. Scary! It all happened at the same time, I was blessed to get the warnings, and to handle it the right way.
