I'm guessing the size of the treehouse would dictate needing a permit. A few years back, I remember this big ruckus in the Minneapolis area over a guy's humongous tree house. Can't remember if he had to dismantle it or not. I think a big reason the public had such a problem with it wasn't necessarily its size but that the guy that owned it was a purported slumlord.

I'm going to call my building department to check on the zoning regulations for tree houses - I'm really curious now, do you normally need a permit for a tree house?!

Aaaahhhh I want one! All I need is a bigger garden....with a big tree in it....and a load of money to pay for it. Very pretty though.
