Knot Another No-Sew Pillow Slipcover (The Package Pillow)

By DIY Maven

This no-sew pillow slipcover idea is for people who not only don’t own a needle or thread but don’t know what they are.
What You Need                                  What You Don’t Need
Ugly square pillow of your choice            Needle

Fabric: approximately twice the              Thread
    dimensions of the pillow,
    so about 40" square fabric
    for 20" pillow.

Nice Package

Lightweight cotton works great for this method.  Lay your fabric wrong side up on a large flat surface. The floor works exceptionally well. Place your ugly pillow in the center of the fabric. Fold up one point of the fabric as shown. Draw up the opposite point, folding the point of the fabric under to the middle of the pillow to hide the raw edge. Draw up the opposite points and tie at the center of the pillow. Tuck in the “ears” to hide the raw edges. By the way, lightweight cotton rips well, so you don’t necessarily need a scissors for this slipcover. Read on for an even easier alternative.

The Scarf Trick

Here's a way to use those square scarves we were given by people who don’t know us well enough to know that we don’t wear square scarves. Bundle up and tie your pillow using the same steps as above. In this case, since your scarf’s edges will have finished edges, you can leave the ears of your knot visible. And because your scarf will remain undamaged, you can always use it as intended, if you should become one of those people who wear square scarves.

Running Without Scissors

For fabric alternatives, try using large kitchen towels or small table cloths. You’ll get the feel of the fabrics (both weight and size) that will work best.

Stating the Obvious

If the knot falls at the wrong place–say up your nose or in your ear–while you're taking your afternoon nap, turn the pillow over.

You really have a bunch of great ideas--I want to go out and get material to try them, yet I can't tear myself away from the computer! (The cold, rainy April weather is not helping, either.) Now, if I can just find those old, ugly cushions I used to own...
