Check out Marcel Wanders’ plate rug. A clever use of shadow plays a trick upon the eye, making it look as if a 98" round, 3 dimensional Delft plate has been placed in the middle of the floor. Made of printed nylon, the rug will set you back about $1,300 bucks.

It's a pretty fabulous idea...  when you see it from above.

The effect seems lost in a standard room viewed from regular height; I wonder if it might just look like you've got a "dirty spot" on your carpet.
