Great Horned Owl Update

By DIY Maven

It’s been twelve days since it rained owls. The ‘Twins’ as we now call them, are getting bigger every day. (They’re about the size of a house cat.) Although they do a significant amount of wing flapping, they’ve only been able to get a couple of inches of air. All in all, it’s been quite a learning experience–for all of us.

The con and pro of having a pair of Great Horned Owls as yard guests:

Con: the mess. Oh sure, there’s the white, splotchy, seen on every statue in the city variety, but what’s worse is the dinner leftovers. Their nightly feedings have resulted in feathers, fur and bones from other luckless creatures.

Pro: less varmints in the neighborhood.

Exactly! Cute and dangerous. They'd hiss and snap their beaks at us if we got too close. They flew away, by the way, a few days after I posted this pic. :(

Heh, they remind me of this owl cartoon I saw... They're kind of cute, yet scary looking, at the same time!

I'm absolutely smitten with those little buggers. They are so precious! How lucky you are to have them living in your yard...the bones and such leftover from nightly meals sound a lot like the dead birds/mice that my cats leave along the walk in the morning when I'm headed to work.
