My New Craft Room: Art supply shelf
By DIY MavenWhat I love about my new art supply shelf is that it’s multi-functional: it looks great and keeps my pens, pencils and scissors tidy and within reach.
To make it, MWT* ripped a piece of 3/4" MDF to 5" x 48". (I decided on 48" to match the width of my new work station, above which the shelf will hang.) We added small brackets to both ends of the piece to complete the shelf structure. Next, we spaced and then cut six holes in the horizontal piece. The holes we sized to fit clear plastic cups I found at Target (on sale for $1.30 each). After construction, I applied with three coats of semi-gloss latex paint, sanding with 220 grit sandpaper between coats. Before I fitted the cups in the openings, I cut strips of white felt and glued them inside each hole to protect my cups from scratches.

Tomorrow: display track for art

MWT is very handy. But if he didn't enjoy making stuff, he wouldn't put up with my hair-brained ideas. Good luck in converting yours ;)
