Curbly’s Top Design Fan Club, Week 4: Garage Sale Style
By DIY MavenOkay, I’ll admit it, I was still a little worried about Bravo’s TD after last week’s roundup, and now irritation has set in. I want to see the thought process behind the designs and the process of executing the designs themselves. Without them, I have no vested interest in the outcome of the tasks. But, be that as it may, I have a crush on Goil and I would love to have Todd Oldham over for tea. They will keep me watching until the last designer is standing. Till then, I’ll just plant a smile on my face and pretend nothing is wrong with the format of the show. So, let’s begin, shall we?
The Task
The contestants were asked to fly to Ecuador. Oh wait a minute, that was the Amazing Race. The remaining designers on TD were asked to create a post-college space for design students that would serve as an eating, sleeping and working area. The best thing about this challenge was that the designers had to furnish their spaces with garage sale finds. Andrea reared her entitled head again claiming that she had never been to a garage sale before, which was great because I had forgotten why we were suppose to hate her.
The Drama
Carisa was dissatisfied with her carpenter. So traumatic was the event that she proclaimed that she would never trust another carpenter ever again. And Ryan. What shall I say about the arrogant, self-indulgent "artist", who, at the moment, is one of the most entertaining aspects of the show? He completely dissed the designers on the judging panel by making some derogatory remark about paint chips and fabric samples, to which J.A. remarked, "I love a good fabric sample!"
The Winners and Losers
Carisa managed to pull off the win last night with another green and orange monstrosity and Felicia got the boot all because of a granny square afghan, which proved that it only takes one thing to make a room look like hell.

Ultimately, Matt’s brown and light green room looked quite nice and Erik brought everything together–to his client’s delight–with an industrial/yacht/stainless combo.

The Summation
High-lights of the night were Goil’s sawed-off chair legs, which need to be seen to be appreciated, Matt’s two-lamps-with-one-shade idea, and Carisa’s pillow-covers that she made from garage sale dinner napkins.
Low-lights were Andrea’s one foot wide, completely unusable bed and Ryan’s black and white jail cell, which should have gotten him the loss. But, as he benefits the show, I’m glad the judges saw fit to let him stay.
