Hand Hooks: Creepy or Cool?

By DIY Maven

Submitted for your approval: Imagine as you enter your home, disembodied hands reach out from the walls, gesturing to you. They offer to take your coat, keys, wallet. (Insert spooky theme song of The Twilight Zone here.)

Available through Unica Home, Harry Allen’s Hand Hooks are made from "detailed casts of the designer’s own hands." The truncated appendages will set you back 75 bucks each--or 15 bucks a digit.

i find them pretty cool! a few years ago i made a cast of my hand with a kit for newborn babies' hands/feet. my friends found it totally creepy though! i should have nailed it on the wall - i especially love the hand that is holding the flower!

Creepy...and cool.  Martha Stewart Living had a how-to for these in a Halloween issue a few years back.  They seemed easy enough to make with plaster of paris -- and WAY cheaper.

Creepy...Are they soft or hard?  What if you brushed against them in the middle of the night.  :-0

Okay, that would be a beginning.

Now - where would I get the faces to make it really creepy?

Agreed.  Very cool in the right atmosphere.  But it's like any other fashion risk, it's all how you carry it off.

It's cool, if the rest of your house can support it. It would look just...odd...in my house.
