I really can’t decide which tee is my favorite, Sven. Could be a problem.

What a smart solution to the problem of improper disposal of alkaline batteries! The "Energy Seed" concept comes from designers Sungwoo Park and Sunhee Kim. It's basically a receptacle for old batteries that collectively harnesses the leftover juice from all the batteries that are placed inside and uses it to power an LED street light.
This is a great idea for just about any environmentally-conscious neighborhood, but I'd actually like one of these for my house too! Maybe they'll design a consumer version as well.

Got to love the Shakers, what with the clean-lined furniture and the glossolalia. Shakerworkshops.com has some seriously lovely stuff, lots of which is reproduced from patterns used by an original family workshop. The really cool part is that you can buy an unfinished kit for considerably less than the finished piece and put it together and then stain or paint it yourself.
There are a huge variety of different stain and paint colours available
and they're included in the price of the kit. Chairs come with the required
amount of chair tape in lots of different colours (They have a virtual
tape weaver tool to help you choose). And again there are very concise tape weaving instructions on the site.

My water heater sprung a leak over the weekend, right around the seal where the pressure relief valve connects to the tank. It was 12 years old and the thermostat was flaky anyway so I decided it was time to replace it. After a few calls to the hardware store, plumbers and the local gas utility, I learned that the direct vent natural gas model I have is not a common type for the local hardware stores to keep in stock and that I should give some consideration to switching to a tankless unit. One thing that I knew I wouldn't do was to switch from gas to electric--gas wins that fight hands down.
After weighing my options, I decided to skip the tankless model and go with a farily efficient natural gas tank model. My heater is i » READ MORE
Designing invitations for my baby's Naming Ceremony has had me thinking about fonts, clip art and ornaments obsesively, 24/7, for three days! Briar Press has tons of lovely things of that ilk to download for FREE. Like these little fellow's:
and these two rather dashing chaps:

Dang. I’ve found another artist that I am completely in love with. Why does this always happen when my walls are full? Or in this case, nonexistent?
Oh, Ellen. I will love you from afar.

I have a massive fear of octopuses. Octopi?
Anyway, I’d totally keep one as a pet if it made me look this cool.

This has been my mantra for sometime now. Unfortunately, it doesn’t translate to ice cream.

Summer's over, the kids are back in school, and weekends are starting to slow down a bit, right? So why not take the weekend to dig yourself a giant rectangular enclosure right in the middle of your living room, add a big lifting mechanism, and drop in a nice pool table?
I have no idea how hard it'd be to set up a system like this, but I'm pretty sure you'd want to know what's directly below the floorboards and be confident that you'd be able to stick hundreds of pounds of felt-covered marble down there without causing any problems.
Still, this is very, very cool, huh?
Realsimple has a cute way to use up the squillion meters of ribbon that you might happen to have tucked away. (Compulsive ribbon buyer? Moi?)
Whip your old shower curtain hooks off and replace them with lengths of ribbon, tie them off and snip the ends at an angle. Practical? Maybe, maybe not, but it's cheap, has big impact and it's super easy to change when you get bored.
A spot of the same ribbon sewn onto the bottom of a few hand towels would totally pull the look together.
Architectural Digest has a Hollywood special in it's November issue. The print edition is jam-packed with drool worthy interiors including Matthew McConaughey's revamped Airstream but over at the website they have slideshows of homes owned By Howard Hughes, John Wayne, Woody Allen, Dennis Quaid and uh, Ryan Seacrest (bless 'im!)
I particularly like this shot of John Wayne's Sitting room, check out the lovely informal grouping of art right behind The Duke.
Perfect for your haunted Halloween party, these spider web balloons–complete with spiders–are clever and easy to make with just a few supplies. Their ‘secret ingredient’ is something called Hi-Float.
Along with the Hi-Float, you’ll need:
11-inch clear latex balloons
Some small rubber spiders.
Clips or plastic disks to seal the balloons.
Air or helium (the second of which is optional)
To make them:
Head on over to Crafty Crafty for the incredibly simple tutorial.
We’ve had alarm clocks that make you chase them down to turn them off, like this one or this one. Our latest entry into the interactive alarm clock is the BanClock. To turn off its alarm, you need to feed it a coin. It will take any currency and any type of coin, but testing confirms that it will hold about $25 worth of quarters before it’ll need to be emptied. The perfect 10" square clock is available at Audiocubes for about 60 bucks (or 2 ½ months of turning it off with quarters) and comes in white, yellow, blue, black and red.
Now showing at the Museum of Contemporary Craft in Portland, OR, is Manuf®actured: The conspicuous transformation of everyday objects. It's an exhibit of mass-produced objects and materials that artisans have taken apart and re-figured into some extraordinary things. Here is just a taste of what you can see at the on-line show.
