Hamster Powered Paper Shredder.

By Chrisjob

Now even your pets can outfit their homes, DIY-style.

The all-analog Hamster Shredder, designed by Tom Ballhatchet, works just like your standard rodent powered office supplies. The hamster runs along the wheel, which in turn destroys your documents and cushions his tabletop penitentiary of happiness.

Ballhatchet's work is currently on display in Milan.

On the other end of the spectrum is the not-nearly-as-cool USB hamster wheel, which I gues » READ MORE

Grill Better.

By Chrisjob

Disclaimer: Though I do identify as a male, I am by no means a suburban beef-worshipper with a tacky apron that won’t let anyone else’s spatula touch my holy grates. But as with sautéing, roasting, broiling, braising, and the like, grilling is an essential and obtainable mode of cooking for the home chef. It is, in fact, probably humankind’s oldest, and most misunderstood, method of heat application.

Intro to Hipster Houseplants.

By Chrisjob

I'd be cool if I never saw another African violet in my life, but that certain doesn't mean I don't love a little in-home foliage. None of the species below cost much, and all can be grow large enough to fill the grandest of empty space

Dracaena Marginata. “Dracaena.” It’s leaves explode like fireworks, and are a must have in your tiki-themed patio.  Keep in bright, but not direct, sunlight; mist leaves regularly, and keep soil moist. (Photo » READ MORE

Does anybody actually watch the DIY network?

By Chrisjob

I don't do TV much, but when I watch, I like to at least pretend that I'm learning something.

So, our cable company just introduced its new "2.0" package, in which you can upgrade your package for an extra $12.49 a month.

There's a bunch of sports channels I won't watch, and some foreign news channels I probably should watch, and the Sundance Channel and the Independent Film Channel which I will DEFINATELY watch.

And the DIY Network is included. » READ MORE

Teach a man to sew....clothe him for a lifetime.

By Chrisjob

I'm a postmodern guy: I recognize the social construction of gender roles, and the institutionalized injustices that pre-determine one's lifestyle based on gender identity, social background, economic status, and education.

So, last night- when my wife was out of town- shhh..don't tell [not because I'm ashamed, but because she'll get mad at me for spending money]- I bought a sewing machine. It's a middle-of-the-road Singer, which I hope I won't ou » READ MORE

Lightbulb Greenhouse from Recycled Materials

By Chrisjob

Everything must simply be better when its small, and/or under glass. Cats are selfish; kittens? ADORable! Likewise, boats are totally boring, but a ship-in-a-bottle?! None cooler.

Set atop a more aesthetically pleasing 'cradle', a series of these 'greenhouses' would look delightful along a windowsill- perfectly playful and exuding life.

(Instructions and photos via tearsoffire.org)

1. Hollow out a lightbulb, following these instructions and » READ MORE
