Do Twin Cities-ers really go to the Mall of America?
By ChrisjobLast weekend, D2: The Mighty Ducks was on tv. (The Quack Attack is Back, Jack.) I, of course, watched the entire thing...
The opening, feel-good montage includes some shots of rollerblading around the Mall of America, ridiing the roller coaster, food court, etc....

That thing looks out of control. No one really goes there to shop for everyday things, right? It can't be convenient... Does it have unique stores, or just the same chains that are in every mall?
(Hopefully, people do go to Mickey's diner [also in the film]...right? Even I've been there.)

It's quite convenient if you know what you need and you happen to be in Bloomington. I mainly go if I need to hit the Lego or Apple store. ;0)
It's also a decent place in the middle of winter to take the kids to let them run around for a while.
I have to admit, the Nickelodeon redo of the park is rather impressive.
But, other than that, yea, it's just a Mall.

Absolutely. I go several times per year. The more you go, the more familiar you are with where stuff is, where to park and how to get in and out fast. You can get in and out of the parking ramps and onto either of the two freeways in any direction within 2 minutes. Its the best place to Christmas shop because you can get it all done quick in the one spot. We eat there, though, only if famished. We usually head back to the city for good food. Local stores, yes. Nobody, however enters the park in the middle..not even to cut through to the other side...I can't even remember what they're calling it these days.

There are _no_ good restaurants there. Every one of the sit-down places are operated by a corporate chain. Dining at MOA is very reminiscent of eating at an airport.
for the record, MOA is in Bloomington, and is widely regarded as an abomination, and a magnet for outstate yokels, and possibly a good way to keep unwanted visiting relatives out of your house for a stretch.

I go for food now and then. They have a good selection of good-to-excellent restaurants. Several years ago, I also did all my Winter Holiday shopping there. It only took about one third of the first floor for me to finish.
They do have unique local stores too.
