Curtain Shelves

My house is relatively small, so I look for storage space wherever I can find it. I'm also not inclined to spend a lot of money on things like window treatments. Combine these two forces and you get Curtain Shelves. Basically, Curtain Shelves are a means of inexpensively hanging curtains while providing another surface to put things.

Here's the finished product:

Construction is pretty simple. The hardest part is finding suitable shelf brackets. I use a closet rod and closet rod hangers on the inside of the brackets to hold the curtain rod. The shelf surface is just a piece painted 1" pine board. (I know, the rod needs to be painted too...)

Currently, five of the seven windows in my house are topped with one of these shelves. Since I have a couple more to make I'll have the opportunity to take step-by-step pictures if further instructions are needed. Just let me know.
