New to Minneapolis
By Brennanhello, i just moved to minneapolis this week and really dont know too much about the city. having said that, i was wondering if there were any events over the summer similar to milwaukee's 'art vs. craft'. well, not so much 'if' there are any but more when and where? also, any other tips on neat places and discoveries that the average person might not know about minneapolis would be great. thanks so much!

I won't even try to start making a list, but MNSpeak is a great place to find all kinds of art/technology/culture-related stuff.

Hey Brennan, I remember a few months ago you posting something about maybe moving here. Glad you arrived safely! I've never been to the Milwaukee event, which makes it hard to compare, but for craft/art shows, the biggie around here is the Uptown Art Fair. This summer it is the weekend of August 3-5. Just head in the direction of Hennepin and Lake and you'll run into it. It's pretty big. You've just missed the American Craft Council show in St. Paul, which always takes place in or around April. One of my personal favorites is Art on the Lake in Excelsior which just HAPPENS to be this weekend (June 9-10). It's much smaller than the Uptown Art Fair, which means it's MUCH less crowded, and because it's held in the park next to Excelsior Bay, it has great atmosphere. It's fun just to stroll around, eat some food, get some craft ideas. Also, it's very dog friendly, so if you have one, bring 'em along. Excelsior itself is a charming little town/suburb, so you might want to hit the shops. Some great old houses to gawk at over there too. Hope this helps, and welcome!
