Living in the suburbs of our nations capital , I had to come up with ways to make it a little bit more exciting and fun. So with my whole entire one bedroom condo, i'm getting creative with paint, stenciling, and other various decorating techniques on a low budget.

My name is Sophia and since purchasing my condo / apartment in 2000, i've found myself becoming more of a Do it yourself type person. I guess it started with fixing clogged plumbing and owning my own Uger and plumbing snake. Who knew I had it in me? So ever since then i've been decorating my place slowly but surely. What brought me to this site today(12/2006) is i'm doing research on how to decorate my bedroom in different layers of paint, artwork, and wallpaper. I just wanted to see whats out there, then just the typcal boring bedroom setup. Style type: Eclectic, modern, Asian, industrial look.

Need advice?

By Bjorkfansoph 7bac9fb1-0f4a-4f29-b9fe-773cbf7ed758_player_large

I need some advice for those in the know? So I hate the finish of my dining room table and chairs, my question is what finish shall I use once I sand everthing down? I'd like to go really dark, should I do this? If you all give advice, can you include a link for me to see the finish you are talking about? Thanks!! Oh, btw, the first photo was taken without a flash and the second one was with a flash.  »MORE

Formica kitchen cupboards painted over.

By Bjorkfansoph 4280_large

I've hated my formica kitchen cupboards for a few years now and i've finally changed them this past year, here how I did it: Before pic: Step 1. Get this special kind of Primer called "UMA" for hard to paint over surfaces. Step 2. Wash your cabients, especially if they are greasy. Unhook all hard to paint doors that you can't reach and lay 'em down somewhere. I had to run my cat off a few times or pet hair end up in the primer or paint. ** Step 3. Paint one layer of primer on and wait or few hours... »MORE

I lived in Park Slope for a few months during my 6 years in NYC.  I miss 'the city'.  But I've heard great things about DC!

Hey Sofia (it's Sofia, right? I think I saw another comment where you mentioned your first name!) Anyway, next week I'm going to announce the Curbly Top Design Fan Club. I would have done it earlier, because I'm so excited about the show (!), but I thought I'd better wait. Anyway, my plan is to post a recap the morning after the show and then encourage people to comment their rants...who/what they love, who/what they hate...that sort of thing. Will we you join me as the second member of the club???!!!!

P.S. Are you a fan of Top Chef and Project Runway as well?? I'm a total Bravo nut!!
