Uses for Vintage Bottles?

By AutumnHeart

We picked up a promotional six-pack of Coke, with glass bottles in the "vintage" style.  They're not the traditional wavy Coke bottles, but look more like this:

We're saving the bottles as we drink the Coke, we just love the shape of them.  Can anyone think of crafty ideas of how to use them, or transform them into something else?

i had some leftover magnetic paint, so i painted a bunch of short bottles with it, without adding a second coat (so they're black). Then I stuck some magnetic letters on them. There's more than a dozen, so they look kind of cool sitting in a row. Eventually they'll do something useful, like hold pencils.

You could also paint them a dark color, then scrape off some of hte paint in designs - swirlies, hearts, whatevers. If you stick some little christmas lights in there it might look pretty funky.

Cutting off the tops and making tall glasses/tumblers? Fun *and* function. :)

Also--and this probly won't look very good in a bottle with a lot of detail like the ones you have-- , does anyone remember making those colored sand designs in clear jars? I think I did a couple as a third class project.  Ah, yes, something iike this, but not as... boring. :)  -->  http://www.kinderinfo.com/crafts/colored-sand-art-activities.htm

Thanks for asking about this. I've got a set of them, too, and couldn't come up with any ideas. I'm going to have to try a few of these as well.

They'd make great vases for a single stem flower such as a gerbera or orchid. Or how about homemade drinks/cordials/syrups? Just find snug-fitting corks!

I have seen (maybe on Instructables) bookshelves constructed with bottles as the supports.  Very nice.  The shelves have holes in them that fit the neck and base end of the bottles, which might be a pain with this particular shape--it was done w/beer bottles--but it was really cool looking.  Also, if you're familiar with bottle trees they could go to good use there.   Bottle trees are rather a southern thing, but they're very cool.

You could put colorful dish soap in one then add a pourer thingy and use it as a decorative dishsoap dispenser.  Here's what I mean by pourer... before now I didn't know what they were called...

We purchased the same thing; we have twelve sitting on our counter right now. I think we'll turn them into candle holders by cutting the bottoms off. You can make them hangable by cutting a metal plate the same size as the bottom of the bottle, attaching heavy wire to opposite sides of the plate and running the wire up through the opening of the bottle. This should give you and idea of what I mean:
