DIY acrylic bedside table & lamp
By AffinityYay! finally finished DIY-ing my bedside table. It also doubles up as a lamp as i placed the lamp inside.
Its pretty simple to do. i bought the separate acrylic pieces and glued them together using acrylic glue, (left the back uncovered as i wanted some air circulation for the heated bulb) sprayed glue on the lace and stick it to the underside of the table, placed the lamp iunder the table and there u go..
This is my first time glueing acrylic to lace. i sprayed clear glue onto the lace. not sure if it will last? thought it should be ok since its on the underside of the table and theres nothing to disturb it to make it loose.more photos at my home blog ...

love that cute chair she has placed in the terrarium.
Natural lightbox
By AffinityI have a odd window behind my bed headboard that i never open. Its used for the aircon serviceman as he need it to access to the aircon ledge outside the window.
Ive temporarily coverd the window with a felt fabric panel that i DIYed. Cut out a simple pattern in the panel so that i can let light in.. more photos in my blog
but i'm still not completely satisfied with this look. Intend to get something more permanent. D
o you think blinds/curtains would suit? it has to be something that blend it with the wallpaper, my headboard as well as the purple wall! arrrrgh..
DIY headboard!
By Affinityi'm thinking of re-styling my bedroom and recently did a headboard for my bed :)
still not completely satisfied with the room though:( .. thinking of Diy-ing a bedside table, sewing my curtains, repainting the wall etc.. gosh those will take me another year to finish!

How do i beautify a fishtank??
By Affinity
My hubby is a avid fish hobbyist. he loves his fishes to bits! i've grown to like them too but not the tanks.. Before we move in we agreed to have a built in tank manufactured so that it can blend with the decor.. we had a hole knocked down from a wall so that we can see thru into the tank. the other side of the tank is flushed with a build in full height cabinet.
But his love for fishes grew (hmm cant say that for his love for me) and we bought another tank. a cheaper one coz the build in tank cost a bomb. Does anyone have any ideas at all how i might decorate/do up the tank a bit so that it looks more sleek or pleasing? something DIY-able?
This is how the new tank look.
was it worth it to DIY?
By Affinity
we've had our new (isit still considered new?) home for about 1 year now, and had DIYed lots of stuff in the past year. Some of the DIYs i will never ever attempt again. Decided to list down some of the DIYs we did and whether its worth doing it all over again, for another room.. or for another new house in the future. Thought it might be helpful for people attempting to DIY some of these too. But then again if u never try it yourself, you will never know :)
1) Sewing curtains for my bedroom
Cost saved from DIY= Cost of buying a similar readymade eyelet curtain $150 - Material costs $20 = $130
Total Time spent= about 3.5 hours
Difficulty level= 4/10 its ok but i'm not a good seamstress.. some parts of the curtain aint straight :P. » READ MORE
Do kirigami for fun
By AffinityWhen i was just a little gal, my mum used to cut out paper patterns to amuse me.. or rather she taught me how to do it so that i can sit at a corner amusing myself over the different pattern possibilites and she can finally have some time on her own.
its super easy to do (unless u are aiming for some complex patterns) and it just takes a fraction of time. Maybe when i'm tired of the flower i did for my coffeetable, i will do an xtra large one to fit my coffee table.
step 1: fold a square paper twice to get a smaller square, step 2: fold into a triangle, step 3: start cutting the edges! start with any easy to do shapes to get the hang of it first. step 4: unfold the paper
Prevent people from walking into your glass door
By AffinityI love glass! glass door.. glass walls..etc.. but after i've had a few guests walk into them at home (It was a very loud Booonkk!! .. and my heart jumped when they hit the glass.. i was quite sure its due to the concern i had for my guests..tho i was equally worried about the condition of my glass wall after such a loud knock.. heeh)
So i decided to do something about the glass.. placed a plant in front of the kitchen glass panel.. and cut out black contact paper to stick in front of my balcony glass.. not sure what else i can do now. just hope no-one walks into it anymore :)
