Before & After: Scandinavian Modern Kitchen Makeover

by on Nov 4, 2010

First things first: I love, LOOOVE a good before and after!  It’s the dangling carrot that keeps me going and feeling inspired.  If someone can turn that into that, then my projects don’t seem so intimidating and I get a tingling “I can do anything” sensation.  And you know what?  It feels good… So good, I want to spread the joy to everyone.  If you’d like that same tingly feel-goodery, then follow the carrot to this awesome Scandinavian Modern kitchen renovation!

This reno comes from the lovely folks behind Hindsvik, an online shop specializing in vintage objects for the home.  I’ve been following their home renovation for a while, where their very unique Scandi-modern style is evident throughout their space.

One thing I love is their repurposing of unexpected materials and objects.  In the kitchen, for example, an old upright spice cupboard finds new life as a horizontal upper cabinet simply by turning it on its side, mounting it to the wall, and attaching a door.  I would have never thought of that!

I also love their use of plywood planks as an unexpected and inexpensive flooring option.  It fits perfectly with their style and looks great to boot!  (They even used the material in their bedroom, which you’ve just got to see.)

Enough gushing, though!  If you want to see how the kitchen, and the rest of their home for that matter, has taken shape, check out their big before and after post here.
