How To Create an 8′ x 10′ Chevron Rug

by on Oct 20, 2010

Back in July of 2008, I showed you how to turn black and white striped fabric into chevron upholstery fabric. What I really wanted, but didn’t know exactly how to execute it, was a chevron patterned area rug. This is by far the best tutorial for a chevron patterned rug that I’ve seen. Carissa from The Fabulous Design File shows exactly how to do it. Think of the color possibilities. (gray and cream, gray and cream, gray and cream) Here’s what she used, a low pile berber 8′ x 10′ area rug.

A side of plain white drywall.

She then taped off the pattern using her 45 degree triangle and painter’s tape.

A green triangle cut out around a transparent plastic triangle.

She devised a little “jig” using two widths of tape to keep the spacing even.

Then she just taped and taped.

Carissa used floor paint to paint the pattern but she didn’t say whether she rolled it on or brushed it on. She did let it dry a day before they walked on it.
