How To: Make a Custom Epoxy-Topped Desk

A Beautiful Mess

This is, hands down, one of the coolest DIY desk ideas I've seen in a while. Sure, industrial pipes, trestle legs, and the occasional hairpin-leg-plus-plywood desk are all great projects. But what if you could up the ante with a custom epoxy tabletop? Here's how to do it -- the easy way!

Joshua Rhodes shared this project on A Beautiful Mess last fall and I think it's just fabulous. While he built the desk itself from scratch, the epoxy technique is something you could easily apply to a pre-built table or desk (can you say "IKEA hack"?).

A Beautiful Mess

To get started, gather up your supplies:

  • epoxy coating
  • interior gloss paint
  • painter's tape
  • wood shims
  • thin wood strips

Once you have everything you need and have acquired a desk (or table) to apply your epoxy to, head over to A Beautiful Mess for the full tutorial and lots of tips for working with this unique material!
