Thank you so much! And I didn't even notice the slip-up, I knew what you meant! :) Thanks again, I am excited to make it! It's much more simple than I thought

Claire W on Apr 21, 2013:

By 'a good underground' I was not advising you to travel by metro, just to use something underneath to avoid damage bij the stanley knife.

English is not my native language and I am not a professional translator, sorry for the slip-up.

Hi Audrey,

The site is in Dutch. Here is a translation.

Making a cheerful doormat

Everyone happy (Dutch  ‘in the wolken’, literally ‘in the clouds’ means ‘over the moon’ or ‘happy’.) thanks to this cheerful doormat! Make a doormat in the form of a cloud yourself.  Quite simply from an ordinary doormat or a piece of carpet. That is a fun way to wipe your feet.

A doormat in front of the door is, especially in rainy Holland, rather a necessity.  Otherwise you will have your whole house full of muddy and wet footsteps. There are doormats with texts ant prints on them, but a doormat in a nice shape we could not find. Therefore we got into action and made a doormat ourselves. Simply with an existing doormat and a stanley knife.

Stanley knife

Vacuum cleaner

Technique  for making the doormat

Draw a cloud on the backside of the doormat (see example).

Cut out the cloud, using a very sharp stanley knife and a good underground, for example a cutting mat or a wooden board. For difficult corners  and curves you can also use a good pair of scissors.

Use a vacuum cleaner around the edges to remover the loose fluff.

I'd love to do #6 but the link takes me to a site in another language. :( Any idea how I could make it?

Thanks Brittni!
