Make It: Modern DIY Concrete Coasters

created at: 06/28/2012

I'm on a concrete kick these days, exploring all the unique ways you can use it in home decor. From accent walls to candle holders, its possibilities seem endless... and these DIY coasters might be the simplest and easiest of them all!

The technique to creating these modern/minimal coasters is similar to our own gold-dipped bowl idea, but instead of smashing clay into a mold, you're simply pouring in cement. I really love the look of these, though, so I'll probably give this a go! Check out a supply list and directions on A Daily Something.

I made some concrete garden spheres after seeing some at the garden supply. Just mix quick set mortar with water till it feels like peanut butter. Find some cool shaped light fixtures (ReStore or garage sales) and spray inside with oil so mortar doesn't stick. Pour in the mortar and let sit for a day. Break the glass and voila!
